KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — A Philadelphia-made product with a purpose is on the shelves at Wegmans—and it’s doing more than filling grocery baskets: it’s taking a bite out of regional food insecurity. Each purchase helps feed neighbors in need.
The Mama-Tee Community Fridge Project, a Philadelphia-based grassroots initiative addressing food insecurity that has fed more than 250,000 people since its formation in 2020, has launched an olive oil line at Wegmans King of Prussia. The debut marks a major milestone for the organization, bringing its mission directly into one of the region’s most high-traffic retail destinations.
At the center of the launch is Mama-Tee’s standout product: The Philly Cheesesteak Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Each purchase supports Mama-Tee’s ongoing work to fight food insecurity across Philadelphia, helping to keep its network of community fridges stocked and accessible to neighbors in need.
Here’s how it works:
- Every bottle purchased contributes to fresh food access.
- 5 bottles purchased help feed a family in need.
- Every 50 bottles sold helps fill a Mama-Tee Community Fridge
“Our product is more than an option on a shelf—it’s a direct connection between everyday shopping and real community impact,” Dr. Michelle Nelson, Founder/Creative Director, Mama-Tee Community Fridge said. “We’re proud to bring a Philly-made product into Wegmans that gives back in a meaningful way.”
The impact of food insecurity is everywhere. Nearly 250,000 area residents are considered to be food insecure.
