Open parking spaces can be elusive on the streets of downtown Phoenix. Finding one can require a little luck. And you may feel even luckier if you find one with a broken parking meter. But you still have to pay.
The Street Transportation Department says a “battery issue” has caused some parking meters in the downtown area to malfunction. The agency says it’s aware of the problem and working to replace the batteries.
Drivers encountering a broken parking meter are advised to make payment via the mobile app or through an online payment method — failure to do so could result in a fine.
The city says staff are identifying and fixing these broken meters as they make the rounds for collections.
