Carson Hocevar
Indy Fantasy Outlook – Carson Hocevar and the #71 team can show up with elite speed at times and at Indy, he might just have a little dark horse potential. Pocono is the best comp track and at “The Tricky Triangle”, Hocevar looked great until he got into the wall which caused his afternoon to go south (finished 18th, 10.2 average running position). In that race, Hocevar had the 6th best Total Speed Ranking but take note his speed over the segments were 4th, 1st, 10th and then 23rd.
Indy Track History – Last year at “The Brickyard”, Carson Hocevar finished 12th, had a 19.3 average running position and ranked 22nd in terms of Total Speed Rankings. That said, take note with 4 laps to go until the end of regulation he was back in 24th so late mayhem was a boost to him in the results column.
Zane Smith
Indy Fantasy Outlook – Zane Smith has been running well and outperforming expectations on many race weekends and at Indy, he might just do it again. That said, I think having mid-pack expectations is ultimately the right play. At Pocono which is the best comp track, Smith finished 25th and had the 21st best Total Speed Ranking.
Indy Track History – Last year at Indy in his only Cup start, Zane Smith had a high-teens afternoon. In the race, Smith finished 17th, had a 17.1 average running position and ranked 15th in terms of Total Speed Rankings.
Ty Dillon
Indy Fantasy Outlook – At Indy, do you think anything good will happen if you pick Ty Dillon (except maybe beat Ty Gibbs). His only upside is attrition and if it doesn’t happen, he’s likely a lock to be a +20’s driver. At Pocono a few weeks back, Dillon finished 33rd, ranked 33rd in terms of Total Speed Rankings and had a 32nd place average running position.
Indy Track History – Indy statistically ranks as Ty Dillon’s 2nd best track via his 17.2 average finish. He’s also been relatively safe given his low tier and he’s 5 for 5 at finishing 21st or better. Last year, Dillon finished 19th but I can’t say he was that good. In the race in the RCR #33, Dillon had a 29.1 average running position and ranked 37th in terms of Total Speed Rankings. Over his next two most recent races, Dillon had results of 14th (2020) and 13th (2019).
