HOUSTON – A 35-year-old man is hospitalized after a stranger shot him on his own doorstep in Southeast Houston late Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. Saturday night, in the 5300 block of El Buey Way. According to Houston Police Department Lieutenant Pulido, an unknown man knocked on the door of a residence. When the 35-year-old homeowner opened the door, the suspect immediately opened fire and fled the scene.
Following the shooting, the suspect ran through the neighborhood, sparking panic among residents. Multiple neighbors dialed 911 to report a man erratically banging on their doors and screaming.
HPD officers flooded the area and used the witness descriptions to locate the man just a few blocks away from the active crime scene. Officers quickly detained him, though authorities note that no firearm has been recovered at this time.
Houston Fire Department paramedics treated the homeowner at the scene for gunshot wounds to his hip and hand. He was transported to a local hospital and remains in stable condition.
Investigators confirmed that the victim and the suspect do not know each other. The detained man is currently classified as a person of interest, and the case has been referred to the HPD Major Assaults division for further investigation.
