Manchester United are set to revamp their team in the summer transfer window. Michael Carrick’s side have secured a Champions League place but the coach will know reinforcements are required to help his side achieve their ultimate ambitions.
The 44-year-old has signed a two-year deal as United manager following his impressive interim spell. After the Premier League season drew to a close on Sunday, his attention will now turn to the transfer window.
Recruiting midfielders is the club’s primary aim after Casemiro confirmed his plan to leave at the end of his contract. The Brazil captain was instrumental under Carrick, enjoying his best-ever goalscoring season, and identifying his replacement will be crucial.

United could also be in the market for a left winger as they seek to improve their forward options. Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes produced another stellar campaign but the team can begin planning for his eventual departure. Here, MEN Sport looks at how United’s attack could line up after a dream transfer window.
Ederson is closing in on a move to Old Trafford and could become Michael Carrick’s first signing. United are discussing a £38million deal for the Atalanta midfielder, who is entering the last year of his contract.
The 26-year-old was an unused substitute in the Italian team’s last game of the season, with his manager explaining that Ederson was close to leaving the club. However, while he would bolster United’s midfield, he is not viewed as the direct replacement for Casemiro.
Instead, the Brazil international would compete with Kobbie Mainoo for a spot in the team and also provide cover in defensive midfield. It has been well-documented that United are weighing up several Premier League stars to fill the Casemiro-shaped hole in Carrick’s side next season.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson would perfectly fit the bill, as well as adding extra dynamism at the base of midfield. Manchester City are understood to be leading the race for his signature but United will hope to overcome their rivals in a blockbuster transfer battle.

Confirmation of long-serving City boss Pep Guardiola’s departure may help United’s cause as the club face the end of an era, leaving Anderson to consider his options. United’s new midfield pairing will be tasked with providing support and covering for Bruno Fernandes in the No.10 role.
The captain is only getting better ahead of his eighth Premier Leaguer campaign at Old Trafford. However, United cannot keep being overly reliant on the 31-year-old if they intend to compete on multiple fronts and challenge for the sport’s biggest trophies.
The marquee signing of Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers could help solve two key aspects of United’s attack. The 23-year-old has been pivotal for Unai Emery’s side but Villa may look to cash in on their prize asset to help overhaul their squad. He could cost around £90m.

United are targeting a new left winger and the England international could flourish out wide for Carrick’s team, moving ahead of Matheus Cunha in the pecking order. However, Rogers would also be a ready-made replacement for Fernandes in attacking midfield when the moment comes, allowing his successor more time to adapt to Old Trafford.
On the opposite wing, there will be fierce competition for a starting spot. Bryan Mbeumo and Amad will jostle for position throughout the campaign, with the dynamic pushing both players to produce their best form.
Up front, Benjamin Sesko will emerge as the focal point of United’s attack after proving himself to Carrick. The 22-year-old has already been effective under the new United boss and is set for a statement campaign next season.
