A rebuild of a 1.4-mile stretch of West Pipeline Road between Harrison Trail and Brown Trail is coming.
The Hurst City Council on May 26 approved a $7 million contract for reconstruction of the roadway. The project includes utilities work, installation of new street lighting, and demolition and rebuilding of a bridge. The work is expected to take close to two years.
The council awarded the contract to SYB Construction, based in Venus, Texas. Five other bids ranged from about $8 million to about $7.3 million.
“We’re also making sure that we are very careful with the existing gas lines that are relocated by Atmos,” said Hurst public works director Robert Sauceda, adding that the majority of the time is needed for work on the bridge.
“The contractor has to be working with traffic, with businesses, and that existing gas line, so we have to be very careful,” he said.

Rickel Park repairs
Council members also ratified city manager Clay Caruthers’ emergency purchases, not to exceed $455,000, for erosion repairs at Rickel Park.
Sauceda said design work for the repairs was done in-house to save money.
“This is part of our priority-based budgeting in the city,” he added.
The repairs are necessary to “protect the drainage channel area from future erosion,” the Parks & Recreation Department said on its Facebook page.
