Philadelphia is set to welcome the FIFA World Cup 2026 in style, with a free opening-night celebration at Lemon Hill featuring Latin music superstar Luis Fonsi.

Philadelphia Soccer 2026 announced Monday that the Grammy-nominated singer behind the global smash hit ‘Despacito‘ will headline the opening-night celebration at FIFA Fan Festival on June 11 at Lemon Hill in East Fairmount Park.

The concert will follow the tournament’s opening match between Mexico and South Africa, which kicks off at 3 p.m., and will launch what organizers are calling a 39-day celebration of soccer, music, food and culture in Philadelphia.

For fans eager to soak up the World Cup atmosphere without a match ticket, the FIFA Fan Festival is designed to be the city’s central gathering place throughout the tournament. The festival will feature live match broadcasts, entertainment, food vendors, interactive activities and community programming.

The festivities begin at 2 p.m. on opening day (June 11) under the theme ‘Welcoming the World with a Philly Phlavor.’ Visitors can watch the opening match on giant screens, sample food from local trucks and vendors and enjoy live entertainment before Fonsi takes the stage that evening.

“Opening day of the FIFA World Cup is the moment we’ve all been waiting for,” said Michael DelBene, Executive Producer of FIFA Fan Festival for Philadelphia Soccer 2026. “FIFA Fan Festival Philadelphia is designed to be the ultimate watch party for 39 days. Luis Fonsi is the perfect artist to help us launch this experience.”

Fonsi’s appearance brings international star power to the event. The singer has spent more than two decades at the forefront of Latin music, earning multiple Latin Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards and Grammy nominations. His 2017 hit “Despacito” became a worldwide phenomenon, breaking streaming records and helping introduce a new generation of listeners to Spanish-language pop music.

“It’s an honor to be part of the opening celebration for the FIFA World Cup in Philadelphia and to perform for fans on such a historic day,” said Fonsi. “Fútbol and music both have a unique power to bring people together, and celebrating that spirit with fans from Philadelphia and around the world is something very special.”

Admission to the FIFA Fan Festival, including the concert, is free. Organizers are encouraging attendees to register in advance, though entry each day will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and is subject to venue capacity.
