The Arizona Attorney General’s Office notified the city of Glendale May 6 that it is investigating the city’s $900 monthly stipend and $450 car allowance for council members, as well as the city’s process enacting this stipend in 2022.
Glendale will have most of the summer to decide on its legal response. Lesley Miller, the city’s media relations and communications program manager, stated in an email that Glendale has until Aug. 20 to respond and will consider its reply this summer.
The letter from Attorney General’s Office states officials received a complaint alleging a misuse of funds and a violation of Open Meeting Law by Glendale regarding City Administrative Policy 11, which allowed for the stipend and car allowance.
