It was heartbreak for the Spurs, and about four hours north on 35, even Dallas sports fans couldn’t help but take some pity.

D-FW’s local sports radio experts spent several segments on Thursday discussing the wild Game 4, the Spurs’ “choke job,” and whether the Knicks will finish off Victory Wembanyama and the Spurs in Saturday’s Game 5.

Check out some of the highlights below.

George Dunham: “It was still, early fourth quarter, a 20-point game. If you’re up 20 points with nine and a half minutes left, it’s gotta be ballgame. We talked about how the Spurs just lost their minds in the third and fourth, with their shot selection, silly turnovers, rushing the ball up the court when time was on their side…”

“I don’t know if I’ve seen a crazier scene than what we saw last night. It was like something you see in a dream and you go ‘Man I had the weirdest dream last night.’ And it was a nightmare for the Spurs, but what a dream sequence of events for the Spurs.”

Craig Miller: “I think the whole thing started to unravel after the Wemby flagrant. It seemed to take the physicality and fight out of San Antonion and particularly out of Wemby. … That was an accidental elbow to Towns’ face, but they had to call it. But the look on Wemby’s face, because I’m sure the bench told him, ‘One more flagrant and you get suspended for a game.’ And now I thought he mentally really had to dial it back. And right about the same time Stephon Castle picked up his fourth foul and had to go to the bench. So the two guys who drive that team the most emotionally, physically, from a leadership expected, they were neutered. And that’s right when the Knicks went on a 13-0 run.”

RJ Choppy: “There’s only one way that you can blow a 29-point lead. Only one way. And that is by just chucking 3’s and not making them. That’s it. You can’t blow that lead any other way. You need to help.

“Nothing offends me more than bad quarterback play and bad basketball, and that’s bad point guard play. That was awful. None of those guys should ever be allowed in the NBA again.” 

Bobby Belt: “When [the Spurs] look back on this series, they’ll look back [and say] ‘That’s how we lost. We threw passes into people’s backs, we took dumb shots, we did this, we did that.’ It’s all the stuff that — you have to mature. That’s the thing I guess they can take comfort in. They can say ‘We’re just dumb, we gotta learn things, we gotta understand this moment.’ The Knicks have done all this, the Knicks have done this dumb stuff against the Pacers in past years, the Knicks have done this dumb stuff against the Celtics. The Knicks are not a dumb basketball team anymore. That’s part of the growth process.”

Corby Davidson: “I get it if you’re a Spurs fan, I get it, it’s the worst moment of your existence. But try to recuse yourself from that and look at it from the other side. It’s such a special moment. That picture… as [O.G. Anunoby] is coming in there with a sea of hands entering the frame. That poster is going to be on every New York kid’s wall into perpetuity.”
