ANAMOSA, Iowa (KCRG) – A former employee at Anamosa Dental Associates is accused of taking patient health savings account and debit card information to use for personal purchases.
According to criminal complaints, Kathryn Eilers used the cards to buy GLP-1 weight loss drugs and items from the website Temu. She is facing two counts of Unauthorized use of a credit card over $1,500/under $10,000.
On March 22, a criminal complaint says a victim reported unauthorized purchases on their health savings account card. The victim’s account showed four separate purchases of medications online. According to a criminal complaint, those purchases totaled about $2,200.
Eilers admitted to getting the patient’s information while employed at Anamosa Dental Associates. She handed over unused medications purchased with the HSA card and notified her employer of what happened. The complaint says she was fired.
Then, on June 10, a criminal complaint says another patient reported suspicious charges from the websites Temu and Trimrx showed up on her debit card bill. The victim says she has never made purchases on those websites.
The complaint says the charges date back to February 24 and had Eiler’s name as the cardholder name as well as her address. She is accused of spending more than $1,800 on the victim’s card. Again, Eilers admitted to getting the debit card information when she worked at Anamosa Dental Associates. She also admitted, according to the criminal complaint, she was going through a mental crisis at the time of the purchases.
Jones County Sheriff Greg Graver says this is an ongoing investigation and the county attorney’s office could file more charges.
