Heavy rain over the Southeast is likely from the remnants of what was Tropical Storm Arthur. Rain chances are rising for North Carolina through Friday morning.

Tropical Storm Arthur became the first tropical system of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. In less than 12 hours, Arthur went from Potential Tropical Cyclone One, reached tropical storm status over the Gulf at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, moved inland over the Gulf shores of Texas by Wednesday evening and weakened to a post-tropical low pressure area Wednesday night. Arthur’s remnant rain will continue spreading over the Southeast on Thursday, bringing the risk of life-threatening flooding to the Gulf and parts of the Southeast. First, a disturbance from a cold front could bring isolated severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening.
