Edgewater, Chicago fire today breaks out at Wyndham Apartments near West Foster Avenue and North Sheridan Road

CHICAGO (WLS) — Crews battled a large fire at a high-rise building on Chicago’s North Side on Friday morning.

Chopper 7 was over the scene near West Foster Avenue and North Sheridan Road in the city’s Edgewater neighborhood around 6 a.m.

Flames could be seen shooting out of a unit on the fourth floor as large plumes of thick smoke billowed from the building.

Multiple firetrucks were on the scene as firefighters doused part of the Wyndham Apartments, a 12-story residential building, with water.

CFD said the flames were extinguished by 6:30 a.m.

Sheridan Road is closed in both directions between Foster and Berwyn avenue.

What started the fire was not immediately clear, and authorities did not immediately say whether anyone was injured.
