Law enforcement officials are on the lookout for a driver who, police say, left a vehicle behind and fled the scene after striking a police cruiser and crashing into a tree in Philly’s Germantown community overnight.
According to police, officers found a vehicle abandoned after a driver crashed into a tree along the 6300 block of Ardleigh Street in Germantown at about 12:30 a.m. on Friday.
In investigating this crash, police said, investigators determined the vehicle was likely the same one believed to have been involved in a crash earlier in the evening with a police vehicle that happened near the intersection of Chelten Avenue and McMahon Street in East Germantown.
Though, officials did not immediately provide further details on that earlier crash and they did not say if anyone was injured in that incident.
The driver of the vehicle that was found abandoned, police said, fled the scene on foot after crashing into a tree on Ardleigh Street.
However, officials said the vehicle was not likely stolen and investigators believe they know who was behind the wheel at the time of both of these crashes.
An investigation is underway as police were still working to locate the driver on Friday morning.
