Remaining Suspect in Fort Smith Teen Homicide Arrested in Houston
FORT SMITH, Ark. —
The suspect wanted in connection with the July 7 killing of a 16-year-old boy in Fort Smith has been arrested.
Fort Smith police announced Sunday that Jasmine Ashanti Johnston, 20, was located in Houston and taken into custody without incident by the United States Marshals Service.
Johnston was the final at-large suspect in the homicide that occurred July 7 in the 5300 block of Elm Street.
Following the shooting, investigators obtained an arrest warrant charging Johnston with first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.
Another suspect in the case, Donny Warned, was previously arrested in LeFlore County, Oklahoma.
Police said officers initially responded around 6 p.m. on July 7 to the southbound on-ramp of Interstate 540 and Kelley Highway, where they found the 16-year-old victim suffering from injuries. The teen was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
In announcing Johnston’s arrest, Fort Smith police thanked the U.S. Marshals Service for locating and apprehending him and for its cooperation throughout the investigation.
