A weak cold front moving through North Texas will knock temperatures into the upper 90s Saturday after nearly two weeks of heat advisories.

The National Weather Service forecasts mostly sunny skies Saturday with some clouds and winds up to 20 mph. Just south of Dallas-Fort Worth, some areas of Central Texas may see scattered showers and storms Saturday.

The weather service did not issue an extreme heat warning for North Texas Friday after temperatures stayed within heat advisory criteria.

Saturday’s high is 99 degrees, with a low of 83. Unlike the last few days, the heat index, or “feels like” temperature, is expected to be 99 degrees, keeping D-FW slightly cooler than previous days. Additionally, Sunday is expected to be similar, with a high of 98 degrees and a low of 76.

The slightly cooler weather won’t last long, as triple-digit temperatures are expected to return Monday with a high of 101 degrees.

The weather service encourages residents heading to area lakes or spending time outdoors this weekend to exercise caution and be aware of the weather. While most of North Texas is expected to stay dry, stronger wind gusts and pop-up storms could create hazardous conditions for boaters heading to area lakes this weekend.

Even with the slight cooldown, health experts still encourage limiting outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, staying hydrated and wearing lightweight clothing and sunscreen.

Families looking to cool off this weekend can also visit one of North Texas’ lakes, pools or public cooling centers across Dallas and Fort Worth.

Simple tips like staying in the shade while outdoors or taking frequent breaks are crucial to staying safe in the Dallas heat.
