SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — Joe Gibbs Racing’s Ty Gibbs won the NASCAR In-Season Challenge and $1 million, beating Ty Dillon at the Brickyard 400.

Gibbs finished in 21st and Dillon finished in 28th.

“It’s super cool and very honored to be in this position and very blessed to be in this position,” Gibbs said.

“I think it says a lot for our guys,” Joe Gibbs, Ty’s grandfather and team owner, said. “They just kept fighting and would up getting it, so that was great.”

Gibbs’ focus shifted from trying to win the Brickyard 400 to just winning the In-Season Challenge towards the end of the race.

“We were kind of out of position to go win the race,” Gibbs said. “It was just, most important was to focus on this and kind of looking at the bigger picture.”

Gibbs was the No. 6 seed in the bracket. He beat Justin Haley, AJ Allmendinger, Zane Smith, Tyler Reddick, and Dillon on his way to the $1 million title.

Bubba Wallace won the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, with the race finishing in double overtime. Kyle Larson finished second and Denny Hamlin finished third.
