The UNC women’s basketball program has done extremely well in terms of sending players to the professional level this offseason.
Lexi Donarski, Maria Gakdeng and Alyssa Ustby have all signed professional contracts to play overseas over the last few weeks. Now, you can another to the list, as Grace Townsend has agreed to terms on a deal to continue her career in Sweden.

After spending one season at North Carolina, Townsend, the Midlothian, Virginia native, will begin her professional career with the KFUM Ostersund.
Townsend put together an incredible resume during her four years at Richmond. She became the First Richmond basketball player to reach 1,000 career points, 500 assist and 500 rebounds, finishing as the program’s 14th overall leading scorer with 1,244 points.Â
Looking to finish her college basketball career elsewhere, Townsend entered the transfer portal, immediately gaining interest from Courtney Banghart. Adding her to the roster was a move to provide the UNC women’s basketball program with a veteran presence in the backcourt. Townsend came in and was a productive player, mostly in a reserve role, averaging 4.2 points and 2.4 assists per game in 15.6 minutes per contest.
Her best performance as a Tar Heel came against Norfolk State, a game in which she scored 14 points while connecting on 9 of 10 free throw attempts in a blowout victory.
Now, Townsend will begin her professional career, looking to extend her playing days. She should have plenty of opportunities to thrive in her new setting, as she’s a very capable ball-handler who has shown the ability to score points at an elite level.
