Gluten-free shoppers will soon have another option in the snack aisle—and it comes in a familiar fish shape, Quartz reports. Campbell’s on Tuesday announced its first gluten-free Goldfish crackers, slated to hit shelves nationwide in November. The baked cheese crackers are made with a certified gluten-free flour blend instead of wheat, use real cheese, and contain no artificial colors or preservatives. A 5-ounce bag will carry a suggested price of $4.99.
The company says years of requests—from social media posts to handwritten notes, one of which USA Today has a photo of—pushed it to rework the recipe. (Per Allrecipes, a gluten-free option was the company’s most-requested snack ever.) “More families can now share the lunchbox moments, after-school snacks, and smiles that Goldfish has inspired for generations,” said a Goldfish executive in a statement. Campbell’s, which cites data that about 30% of Americans seek gluten-free products, is betting the launch will help revive its struggling snacks division, where sales have recently slipped. Earlier this year, Cheez-Its also introduced a gluten-free option.
