{"id":1000096,"date":"2026-08-14T10:55:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T10:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1000096\/"},"modified":"2026-08-14T10:55:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T10:55:17","slug":"metropolitan-notes-hallander-wheeler-strome-pro-hockey-rumors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1000096\/","title":{"rendered":"Metropolitan Notes: Hallander, Wheeler, Strome \u2013 Pro Hockey Rumors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"byline\">\n  By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prohockeyrumors.com\/author\/brianlarose\" title=\"Posts by Brian La Rose\" rel=\"author nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brian La Rose<\/a> |<br \/>\n  at August 13, 2026 8:57 pm  <\/p>\n<p>Penguins forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hallafi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-13_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Filip Hallander<\/a><\/strong> missed most of last season due to blood clots.\u00a0 He was limited to just 13 games with Pittsburgh and three more with AHL Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton.\u00a0 While on assignment in the minors, more tests were done with the team discovering an issue with his lung, ending his year prematurely.\u00a0 Fortunately, he is recovering well.\u00a0 In a recent interview <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hockeysverige.se\/nhl\/hallander-om-tuffa-aret-tankte-jag-skulle-fa-gora-annat-a5Qaz8k5R9sS\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">with Hockey Sverige\u2019s Andreas Larsson<\/a>, he noted that he has fully recovered from both issues although there is still one more hurdle to clear.\u00a0 He will undergo one last test once he arrives in Pittsburgh for training camp and if things go well, he\u2019ll be cleared to be a full participant in training camp and push for a spot on the roster.\u00a0 Hallander is in the second and final year of his contract with a cap hit of $850K and is waiver-eligible if he can\u2019t crack Pittsburgh\u2019s lineup.<\/p>\n<p>More from the Metropolitan:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"longlis\">\n<li>After spending last season as a Hockey Operations Advisor with the Rangers, former NHL winger <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/wheelbl01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-13_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Blake Wheeler<\/a><\/strong> is moving on. Mercogliano of The Athletic relays (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/vzmercogliano\/status\/2087602388244865462\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter link<\/a>) that he has departed New York\u2019s front office to move home to Minnesota.\u00a0 Wheeler finished up his playing career in 2024 with the Rangers and remained in the area, spending two years coaching junior hockey in Connecticut while adding the advisor role last season, a role that winds up being one-and-done.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stromdy01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-13_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dylan Strome<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s younger brother will remain in the Capitals organization.
