Only Albuquerque, New Mexico, received a lower pedestrian safety score.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">The analysis gave Jacksonville a pedestrian fatality rate of 3.05 deaths per 100,000 people and a Walk Score of 26. Its overall pedestrian safety score was 20 out of 100.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">Albuquerque ranked last with an overall score of 12, while Boston topped the list with a score of 88.<\/p>\n<p>How the cities were ranked<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">The analysis combined pedestrian fatality data from the Governors Highway Safety Association\u2019s preliminary 2024 report with Walk Score data measuring access to amenities, population density and street design.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">Cities received up to 50 points for pedestrian fatality rates and up to 50 points for walkability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">The company examined 35 metro areas with populations exceeding 500,000. Jacksonville was the only Florida city included in the published rankings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">All 10 cities at the bottom of the list were located in the South or Southwest.<\/p>\n<p>Most dangerous cities for pedestrians<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">The 10 lowest-ranked cities were:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Albuquerque, New Mexico <\/li>\n<li>Jacksonville, Florida <\/li>\n<li>Mesa, Arizona <\/li>\n<li>Phoenix, Arizona <\/li>\n<li>Tucson, Arizona <\/li>\n<li>Las Vegas, Nevada <\/li>\n<li>Charlotte, North Carolina <\/li>\n<li>Nashville, Tennessee <\/li>\n<li>Fort Worth, Texas <\/li>\n<li>Memphis, Tennessee <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Pedestrian safety recommendations<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends that drivers slow down near crosswalks, remain alert for pedestrians and never pass a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">Pedestrians should use sidewalks when available, cross at intersections or marked crosswalks and remain alert for vehicles entering or leaving driveways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\">The complete rankings and methodology are available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kurufootwear.com\/blogs\/articles\/safest-and-most-dangerous-cities-for-pedestrians\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KURU Footwear website<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 eJzHXc body-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/mobile-apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/mobile-apps\">Click here<\/a> to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
