Its undulating roof arches to shape a grand space for prayerat one end and morphs downward into a slung surface that shelters an intimate space for education at the other.”

“The roof harvests diffuse, sublime daylight from a field of light wells while minimizing heat gain from Doha’s strong sun,” Diller added. “The design was also inspired by Islamic art and architecture in which abstraction serves to represent the transcendent nature of the divine. As a woman, the project was a special opportunity for me to design a space exclusively for women that is flexible and responsive to real-time, everyday needs.”

Similar articles on Archinect that may interest you…

anchor Image credit: Iwan Baan The Al-Mujadilah Center and…

[32
648,1032,1033,171,67,132,68
0":"post-100081","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-arts-and-design","8":"tag-arts","9":"tag-arts-and-design","10":"tag-design","11":"tag-entertainment","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us
["GET
