Butch Huskey, who was the penultimate Met to wear No. 42 and spent parts of five seasons in Queens, has died, the team announced Friday.<\/p>\n

He was 54 years old.<\/p>\n

A cause of death wasn\u2019t revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are saddened to learn about the passing of former Met Butch Huskey,\u201d the Mets said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Huskey was the Mets\u2019 seventh-round pick in 1989 out of high school, and he made his MLB debut four years later in 1993 before going on to appear in 414 games for the Mets \u2014 while also spending time with the Mariners, Twins, Red Sox and Rockies.<\/p>\n

\"MetsMets manager Bobby Valentine is ecstatic after Butch Huskey (42) hit a home run in the sixth inning during a game against the Padres on August 23, 1997. The home run was Huskey\u2019s third hit of the game, making the score 4-2. 8.23.97<\/p>\n

He hit .264 with a .740 OPS with the Mets, and in 1997, he launched 24 homers.<\/p>\n

After the 1998 season, the Mets traded Huskey to the Mariners, and he was dealt again to the Red Sox \u2014 a team that ended up making the ALCS in 1999 before falling to the Yankees and landing short of breaking the franchise\u2019s World Series curse.<\/p>\n
