{"id":1001741,"date":"2026-08-15T05:09:18","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T05:09:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1001741\/"},"modified":"2026-08-15T05:09:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T05:09:18","slug":"yankees-cody-bellinger-could-start-rehab-assignment-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1001741\/","title":{"rendered":"Yankees&#8217; Cody Bellinger could start rehab assignment next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO \u2014 The end of Cody Bellinger\u2019s stay on the injured list <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/13\/sports\/timeline-for-yankees-injured-star-trio-becoming-clearer\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is beginning to come into sight<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Almost exactly three weeks removed from suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain, the Yankees outfielder went through a full pregame workout early Friday afternoon at Rogers Centre, doing defensive work in left field and running the bases close to full speed before later taking batting practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If he continues to respond well to the increased workload, Bellinger could \u201cbe in line for a rehab [assignment] sometime next week,\u201d manager Aaron Boone said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel really good,\u201d Bellinger said before the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/14\/sports\/yankees-suffer-disappointing-loss-to-blue-jays\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yankees opened a series against the Blue Jays with a 3-1 loss<\/a>. \u201cToday was a really good day, so I\u2019m advancing very well.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40351107\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/cody-bellinger-35-new-york-135524286.jpg\" alt=\"Cody Bellinger at bat for the New York Yankees.\" class=\"wp-image-40351107\"  \/>Cody Bellinger of the New York Yankees doubles in the eighth inning during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Philadelphia. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Bellinger indicated he is still experiencing some tightness in his left hamstring, but he has felt better every day while trying to push the envelope as much as his body allows. On Friday, that included testing the hamstring on the turf (which can often be unforgiving for players dealing with leg issues), and it \u201cwent way better than I expected.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was doing a lot of defense with [outfield\/third base coach Luis Rojas] \u2014 breaking in, breaking back, first step was good,\u201d Bellinger said. \u201cBases went well. So defensively, it was my best day effort-wise.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Once he is cleared for a rehab assignment, Bellinger might only need a few games before he returns to the Yankees lineup, given that he has not been out of action for too long.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Boone picked up his 50th career ejection Friday rather quietly, then took the field to get his money\u2019s worth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Boone claimed he simply told home plate umpire Vic Carapazza in the top of the sixth that a pitch to Luis Garc\u00eda Jr. was low. Obviously, there were a lot of challenges early, rightfully so. I just said, \u2018We can\u2019t challenge everything.\u2019 He asked what I said. I said, \u2018I just said it was low.\u2019 You saw how innocuous [it was].\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a tired toss with a guy that was struggling early on in this game.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Angel Chivilli, who had been a pleasant bullpen surprise up until a clunker in his last outing before being demoted to Triple-A earlier this month, may not be available to come back up any time soon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The reliever landed on the injured list Friday at Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre with \u201csome posterior elbow stuff going on,\u201d Boone said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGo beyond the box score with the Bombers\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Inside the Yankees by Greg Joyce, exclusively on Sports+.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo he\u2019ll be seeing the doc here in the next day or two,\u201d Boone said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chivilli only appeared in one game at Triple-A after he was optioned there last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carlos Rod\u00f3n (left elbow inflammation) \u201clooked really good\u201d in his second rehab start Thursday night, Boone said, though it sounds like he may need at least one more before he returns. There\u2019s a lot of factors other than, \u2018Bring him,\u2019 which we might do. Obviously, he\u2019s not fully built up yet. So we\u2019re still talking through that the next couple days.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luis Gil (right shoulder inflammation) made a second rehab start Friday with High-A Hudson Valley \u2014 throwing 30 pitches across two scoreless innings \u2014 three days after his first outing when he threw 13 pitches in one inning.
