Carson Beck got paid a lot of money<\/a> to come join this year’s Miami Hurricanes football team. That’s because they believe he could lead them back to their glory years.<\/p>\n

During the 80s, early 90s and even late 2000s, the Hurricanes dominated college football. But they have not yielded anything close to that success in over two decades.<\/p>\n

They thought they had that in Cam Ward last year. Realistically, they probably did, had it not been for a shoddy defense that failed that team overall. Now it is up to Beck to shoulder a huge amount of expectations this season, especially coming off a year that more or less derailed his first-round projections in this year’s draft.<\/p>\n

“Carson Beck got way too much heat for what went down at Georgia last year,” ESPN’s Greg McElroy said on the Always Football podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Beck, who suffered a UCL injury in his throwing arm in the SEC Championship Game last year, helped the Bulldogs win that game over Texas. And despite throwing a career-high 12 interceptions, he still threw for nearly 3,500 yards and 28 touchdowns last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, there were just times where I just tried to press too much,\u201d Beck admitted at ACC Kickoff, via Yahoo Sports<\/a>. \u201cI tried to be Superman and save the day. That\u2019s not what we need. I just need to be myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

McElroy has confidence that Beck will have a bounce-back season and make Miami a national title contender, making the Hurricanes possibly the most complete team they have had in years.<\/p>\n

“I look at where this team has gone in the last couple years, where they’ve progressed the last couple years, and I happen to think this could be the best year in Mario Cristobal’s tenure.”<\/p>\n

Miami just missed out on making the College Football Playoff last year while Georgia’s SEC title win helped secure their berth and a bye through the first round. Beck will look to do that for Miami this year, along with helping the Hurricanes win their first-ever ACC title.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Carson Beck got paid a lot of money to come join this year’s Miami Hurricanes football team.
