It was covered a few more times until 1981, when Newton dropped her country rock version. Naturally, the youngest of the era were into it. \u201cRapture\u201d was a hefty hit for the outfit, peaking at No. 1 on the Hot 100 as well as the Dance Club Songs chart in the US.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cBette Davis Eyes\u201d by Kim Carnes from \u2018Mistaken Identity\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786819156_83_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>No matter your age, you probably remember the chorus from this Kim Carnes classic. \u201cBette Davis Eyes\u201d is an enduring soft rock hit that topped the Hot 100 for a whopping five weeks, and I can see why. This song is still so classy, catchy, and enjoyable after all these years. I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if a lot of young 80s kids listened to this one on repeat on their way to school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cJessie\u2019s Girl\u201d by Rick Springfield from \u2018Working Class Dog\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786819157_33_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The obsession teen girls had with Rick Springfield in the 80s was something to behold. So, naturally, \u201cJessie\u2019s Girl\u201d makes it to our list of 1981 songs that young listeners blasted in their headphones on the way to school. The song itself is a little controversial, considering it\u2019s about a guy lusting after his friend\u2019s girlfriend. But in the end, \u201cJessie\u2019s Girl\u201d was an enormous Grammy-winning hit.
