An innocent river otter was left suffering from head trauma after a heartless hit-and-run driver<\/a> struck the critter and fled in Northern California Friday.<\/p>\n

The otter was hit near Leisure Town Road and Foxborough Road in Vacaville \u2014 an area notorious for otters being struck by vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOtter Needs Help! This boy was hit by a car today in Vacaville, CA. Please donate for his medical care, rehab, and transport. Thank you,\u201d the Solano Wildlife Rescue and Education Center posted on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

One woman said her daughter discovered the injured animal lying in the road and stayed with it until help arrived.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter found him in the road last night\u2026 Somebody hit him and didn\u2019t stop. She pulled over and stayed with him until animal control came. I\u2019m so glad to see he\u2019s getting help,\u201d one user commented.<\/p>\n

An otter is pictured after being hit by a car in Vacaville, California. The Solano Wildlife Rescue and Education Center is seeking donations for his medical care, rehabilitation, and transport.<\/p>\n

The Wildlife Center thanked the woman\u2019s daughter for stopping to help, saying they \u201ctry really hard to save the critters\u201d that come through their doors.<\/p>\n

The otter escaped the crash without any broken bones but suffered head trauma and will receive treatment for roughly seven to 10 days, the Wildlife Center told KRON4<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Its \u201chead swelling should go down during this time,\u201d the organization said.<\/p>\n

The Solano Wildlife Rescue and Education Center<\/a> is a Fairfield-based nonprofit that works to protect local wildlife, rescue injured animals and rehabilitate them before returning them to the wild.<\/p>\n

The group has recently treated a female opossum with a fractured lower jaw and rescued and released an illegally trapped coyote<\/a>.<\/p>\n
