\n\tEXCLUSIVE<\/strong>: Former Saturday Night Live writer\/performer John Higgins<\/a>, member of the Please Don\u2019t Destroy comedy group, has joined the cast of ABC\u2019s Scrubs<\/a> for a major recurring role in the upcoming second season of the revival, Deadline has learned.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe will play Grant, the new Chief Resident, who is envisioned as a thorn in J.D.\u2019s side the way he himself once was for Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley), I hear.<\/p>\n

\n\tDonald Faison alluded to the casting at D23\u2019s\u00a0\u201cScrubs: Scrubbing Back\u201d panel Saturday moderated by Scott Foley \u2014 who is returning to the show next season<\/a> as Sean Kelly \u2014 and featuring series stars\/executive producers\u00a0Braff\u00a0(John \u201cJ.D.\u201d Dorian),\u00a0Faison\u00a0(Christopher Turk) and\u00a0Sarah Chalke\u00a0(Elliot Reid), along with showrunner\/executive producer Aseem Batra.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJohn Higgins joins the cast, it\u2019s been a lot of fun to watch him work, actually him and Ava Bunn, who plays Tosh. They\u2019ve been great additions,\u201d Faison said. <\/p>\n

\n\tBunn, who plays intern Tosh, is being promoted from recurring to series regular in Season 2 alongside Braff, Faison and Chalke.<\/p>\n

\n\tReps for ABC and Scrubs producer 20th Television declined comment. <\/p>\n

\n\tHiggins joins fellow Season 2 recurring cast addition Keyla Monterroso Mejia\u00a0as surgical nurse Mimi<\/a>. Not coming back are Season 1 recurring players<\/a> X Mayo as nurse Raymond and Joel Kim Booster as scheming attending physician and J.D. rival Dr. Kevin Park.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe original series\u2019 creator Bill Lawrence serves as executive producer on the revival via his Doozer Productions alongside the company\u2019s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer as well as showrunner Batra and stars Braff, Faison and Chalke.\u00a0Scrubs is produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios. The series will return to ABC on Wednesdays Sept. 30 and stream next day on Hulu.<\/p>\n

\n\tBest known for his work on\u00a0Saturday Night Live\u00a0as one-third of the New York-based Please Don\u2019t Destroy,\u00a0Higgins co-wrote and executive produced\u00a0Please Don\u2019t Destroy: The Treasure Of Foggy Mountain,\u00a0Universal\u2019s 2023 feature film directed by Paul Briganti and produced by Judd Apatow. <\/p>\n

\n\tHe left NBC\u2019s sketch program last summer to focus on acting. He has coming up the Netflix film\u00a0Bad Day,\u00a0directed by Jake Szymanski and starring Cameron Diaz, and a recurring role on Season 2 of Apple TV\u2019s comedy series Stick starring and executive produced by Owen Wilson.
