\n\tOscar nominee Monica Barbaro<\/a> is officially set to star in Luca Guadagnino<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0\u201cArtificial<\/a>\u201d for Amazon MGM Studios.<\/p>\n

\n\tBarbaro \u2014\u00a0whose casting had been rumored, but whose deal is now closed \u2014 joins previously reported stars Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman and Cooper Koch. Ike Barinholtz remains in talks<\/a> to join the cast.<\/p>\n

\n\tPlot details for \u201cArtificial,\u201d described as a \u201ccomedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence,\u201d are being kept under wraps. However, early reports suggest that it will center around the company OpenAI and the tumultuous period in 2023 when its CEO Sam Altman was fired and rehired in just a few days. Garfield has been reported<\/a> to portray Altman with \u201cAnora\u201d standout Borisov<\/a> as Iya Stuskever, an OpenAI co-founder who led the movement to get rid of Altman.<\/p>\n

\n\tSimon Rich wrote the script and will produce alongside Heyday Films\u2019 David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford, as well as Jennifer Fox.<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this year, Barbaro earned an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of legendary folk singer and activist Joan Baez in \u201cA Complete Unknown,\u201d which followed her breakout role as the fighter pilot Phoenix in \u201cTop Gun: Maverick.\u201d She\u2019ll next star in Amazon MGM\u2019s \u201cCrime 101\u201d opposite Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan, and make her stage debut in a revival of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos\u2019 \u201cLes Liaisons Dangereuses\u201d at London\u2019s National Theatre. Barbaro is represented by UTA, Range Media Partners, Narrative and Meyer & Downs.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cArtificial\u201d also marks the latest collaboration between Guadagnino and Amazon MGM following \u201cAfter the Hunt.\u201d The drama, starring Julia Roberts, Garfield and Ayo Edebiri, will debut at Venice Film Festival before its theatrical release on Oct. 10.
