UC San Diego Health<\/a> Monday opened the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion at its Hillcrest location, the first major milestone in redeveloping the 62-acre medical campus.<\/p>\n

The 250,000-square-foot facility is intended to provide greater availability for diagnostic, treatment, surgical and cancer care.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to open this new space, which reflects our dedication to advancing academic medicine, enabling us to educate, research and serve our community with impact,\u201d UCSD Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will empower the next generation of medical leaders to innovate, discover and deliver compassionate, world-class care. We are grateful to the donors and many community supporters who helped make this project possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Laurie McGrath and the McGrath Family Foundation donated $25 million<\/a> to name the facility, and Price Philanthropies<\/a> and the Price family contributed $10 million to establish the Barbara Parker, MD, Breast Center and name the Price Philanthropies Foundation Plaza.<\/p>\n

Additional support came from Carol and Jeff Chang, Irwin and the late Joan Jacobs, and the Health Sciences Board of Advisors in naming the Steven R. Garfin, MD, Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy motivation to give to UC San Diego Health stemmed from more than its advanced diagnostics and treatments \u2014 I was profoundly moved by the doctors and caregivers and the overall experience of care,\u201d said Laurie McGrath, president of the McGrath Family Foundation. \u201cThey guided my family through illness with kindness, professionalism, and compassion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted others in the community to have access to this same top care. It was gratifying to make a gift that is helping the health system expand and bring safe, reliable, and high-quality health services to Hillcrest \u2014 an area of San Diego in growing need of this special care.\u201d<\/p>\n

The facility includes ambulatory surgery suites, operating rooms and imaging technologies, according to a UCSD statement. It also brings together a multi-specialty cancer clinic, a breast center, an infusion clinic, and advanced radiation therapy, as well as a suite of other specialties and expanded space for Moores Cancer Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our first significant investment aimed at dramatically increasing access to our world-class cancer services,\u201d said Patty Maysent, CEO of UCSD Health. \u201cMcGrath is a new model of excellence, bringing together integrated, multidisciplinary care, leading-edge clinical trials, and exceptional cancer treatment \u2014 all under one roof \u2014 to deliver the highest standards of care available today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other additions include artwork commissioned from San Diego artists and a cashier-less shop.<\/p>\n

The McGrath building is the first phase of a larger Hillcrest Medical Campus Redevelopment<\/a> Project that includes a new 1,850-space parking structure with an underground connection to the pavilion.<\/p>\n

The pavilion also features \u201cintentional respite areas for doctors and staff,\u201d UCSD officials said.<\/p>\n

Future phases of the project are scheduled to include workforce housing, retail services and large green spaces.<\/p>\n
