{"id":1005026,"date":"2026-08-16T19:47:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T19:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1005026\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T19:47:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T19:47:17","slug":"phoenix-hiking-trails-to-close-during-extreme-heat-warning-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1005026\/","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix hiking trails to close during extreme heat warning this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\"><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Several popular Phoenix-area hiking trails will be off-limits during the hottest parts of the day this week as an Extreme Heat Warning takes effect across the Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">The City of Phoenix will close the following trails Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list | article-list\">\n<li>Camelback Mountain: Echo Canyon and Cholla Trail<\/li>\n<li>Phoenix Mountains Preserve: Piestewa Peak Summit Trail and associated trails<\/li>\n<li>South Mountain Park and Preserve:<b>\u00a0<\/b>Holbert Trail, Mormon Trail, Hau\u2019Pal Loop Trail, and access to the National Trail from the Pima Canyon Trailhead<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The closures go into effect when the National Weather Service issues an Extreme Heat Warning for the region. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">First Alert Weather Days have also been set Monday through Friday as a strong ridge of high pressure is expected to push temperatures above 110 degrees each day. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><b>If you do hike, take precautions:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"list | article-list\">\n<li>Go early or late \u2014 avoid peak heat hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Drink at least one liter of water per hour<\/li>\n<li>Wear light-colored, breathable clothing, a hat and sunscreen<\/li>\n<li>Stay on marked trails so firefighters can reach you in an emergency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Firefighters urge hikers to watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including confusion, nausea or a lack of sweating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Phoenix city officials report that more than 200 hikers are rescued from desert and mountain parks each year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">See a spelling or grammatical error in our story? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/page\/send-us-your-feedback\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Please click here to report it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">Do you have a photo or video of a breaking news story?
