{"id":1005226,"date":"2026-08-16T21:57:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T21:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1005226\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T21:57:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T21:57:21","slug":"harvard-prof-slammed-for-using-ai-to-write-to-write-anti-trump-op-ed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1005226\/","title":{"rendered":"Harvard prof slammed for using AI to write to write anti-Trump op-ed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Harvard professor is in hot water over claims that an anti-President Trump opinion article he wrote for the Financial Times was almost entirely AI-generated, with some branding it \u201cslop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article, by former Venezuelan government minister Ricardo Hausmann, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/7ff4321e-3f96-4f7b-8f2d-4fefa4773a5d?sharetype=blocked\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">now includes a disclaimer from the FT<\/a> following its publication on\u00a0Thursday,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has come to our attention that AI was used to condense a longer draft of this column prior to submission to the FT and our own editorial involvement,\u201d reads the editorial note at the top of the piece.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40366209\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ricardo-hausmann-director-center-international-137622987.jpg\" alt=\"Ricardo Hausmann, Director of the Center for International Development, participating in a dialogue on economic complexity and policies.\" class=\"wp-image-40366209\"  \/>Harvard professor Ricardo Hausmann has been accused of using AI to write an op-ed in the Financial Times. Europa Press via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FT editorial code of conduct specifically prohibits the use of AI in the writing process,\u201d the statement continues.<\/p>\n<p>It came after the op-ed, which criticized President Trump\u2019s tariffs, was called out on social media over its stilted prose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGotta be the worst AI slop I\u2019ve seen in a major publication,\u201d one\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/alexbronzini\/status\/2087930539164434493\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">X user wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another X user\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BrendanNyhan\/status\/2088704705450987778\/photo\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">shared a grab from AI detector Pangram<\/a>, which showed that the 841-word piece was 71% AI-generated.<\/p>\n<p>At a time when many in academia are fighting back against growing numbers of students relying on AI for their work, the idea of a top Harvard Kennedy School of Government academic using the technology for their work was particularly dispiriting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be very difficult this academic year trying to encourage students to write persuasively with creativity, individuality, and style\u2026 when a star Econ professor at Harvard Kennedy School publishes such easily ID\u2019ed AI slop in the Financial Times,\u201d bemoaned Michael Socolow of the University of Maine in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MichaelSocolow\/status\/2088354385386463609\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">social media post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.66699219;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40366214\" width=\"394\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/president-donald-trump-speaks-meeting-137018900.jpg\" alt=\"President Donald Trump speaks during a meeting in the Oval Office.\" class=\"wp-image-40366214\"  \/>Hausmann\u2019s FT column criticized President Trump\u2019s tariffs.
