Officers found Davis with a gunshot wound, police said.

On Thursday night, police announced the arrest of 37-year-old Patrick Lawrence, who faces a murder charge in the shooting death of Davis.

According to police, witnesses reported that Lawrence and Davis got involved in “an apparent road rage situation.” Lawrence pulled up to the woman’s car and fired at least one shot, police said. Davis was shot in the torso and died at the scene, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. In an interview with homicide detectives, Lawrence admitted to shooting at Davis’ car, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

‘We were inseparable’

“My sister was very sheltered, so she really didn’t talk much around people,” Taivion Davis said in a conversation with the Star-Telegram. “But once she got comfortable enough with you, she was one of the best people that you could ever have in your life.”

Taivion Davis said she and her younger sister looked so much alike that people often thought they were twins. They were a year and a half apart, but they would tell everyone they were twins. “I’m her big sister, but we loved each other. We were so, so close. We were inseparable,” the sister said.

“She really has made an impact on a lot of people,” Taivion Davis said. “I receive a lot of phone calls, text messages, and emails every day about her. Everybody is hurt by this situation.”

Her little sister went to college in 2020 for forensic psychology, but later on learned that her true passion was working with little kids and that is why Lataivia transitioned from that to the school, Taivion Davis said.

“There are so many things I wish I could say to you, so many memories I wish I could relive. I wish I could hug you one more time,” Taivion Davis said in a letter to her sister that she read aloud at the church. “I wish I could hear you laugh one more time. I wish I had one more chance to tell you how much I love you and how much you mean to me.”

“Until we meet again, rest peacefully, my beautiful little sister. You fought your battles, you lived your life, and now you can finally rest. I love you more than words can express, and I miss you every day. And no matter how much time passes, you will always be my little sister,” Taivion Davis said as her voice broke in tears.

“This is a family church, and a family sticks together in good times and bad times; this is a rough moment for us,” Bishop Tyrone Jones said.

Tyrone and Michelle Jones said Lataivia Davis and her family had been a part of the ministry from when she was a toddler.

Michelle Jones described Lataivia Davis as a “quiet storm,” someone who was quiet but very joyful and would “give you the shirt off her back.”

“She was young, just turned 24 in July, and her life was just really starting. She had a love, and she had moved out on her own,” Michelle Jones said.

“For you to just take that life, think about what you do before you do it. My mom always used to say that because your actions, you can’t take those back; your words, you can’t take them back. But it’s better to say something than to take a life,” she said.

🚨 More breaking news:

◽️ Sign up for Star-Telegram news alerts.

This Sunday’s services at a Fort Worth church played all of Lataivia Davis’ favorite prayer songs.
