{"id":1005925,"date":"2026-08-17T05:52:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T05:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1005925\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T05:52:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T05:52:27","slug":"graphic-details-released-on-alleged-violent-disruption-at-nyc-synagogue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1005925\/","title":{"rendered":"Graphic details released on alleged violent disruption at NYC synagogue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More has been learned about the chaotic moments leading up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/central-synagogue-service-disruption\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Friday&#8217;s violent disruption<\/a> at a Midtown synagogue.<\/p>\n<p>Larry Montes, 46, the suspect accused of attacking two people inside Central Synagogue, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/nyc-central-synagogue-disruption-hate-crime-arrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">made his first appearance before a judge<\/a> late Saturday night. He is charged with felony hate crimes.<\/p>\n<p>The Manhattan District Attorney&#8217;s Office released transcripts from inside the arraignment, which provide new details about Friday&#8217;s incident.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Montes rushed toward the rabbi, claiming he was &#8220;God,&#8221; vandalized property, called the worshippers fake Jews, and struck a 63-year-old woman in the face, knocking her to the ground. They also say Montes headbutted and spit on a Black security guard working to remove him, calling him a racial slur in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution added that in a post-Mirandized statement after being removed from the synagogue, Montes allegedly admitted to the crime and said it was religiously motivated, adding he had a strong animus towards Jewish and Black people.<\/p>\n<p>The judge granted Montes, who has two prior misdemeanors, bail. His next appearance before a judge is set for Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Central Synagogue vowed to not allow hatred to interrupt its call to worship.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We cannot allow anyone to rob us of our attention on Shabbat,&#8221; Rabbi Andrew Kaplan Mandel said.<\/p>\n<p>Central Synagogue sat quiet on Sunday, with no planned worship services.
