Liverpool<\/a> site This is Anfield<\/a> compiled a few reports indicating that Liverpool FC<\/a> actually attempted to extend the contract of Luis Diaz before ultimately selling him to Bayern Munich<\/a>: <\/p>\n

Liverpool had made two attempts to extend Luis Diaz\u2019s contract before he agreed a \u00a365.6 million transfer to Bayern Munich this summer. The 28-year-old saw Liverpool and Bayern Munich formally agree a deal to see the Colombian swap Anfield for the Allianz Arena on Sunday, with an offer of \u20ac75 million (\u00a365.6m) accepted. However, The Times\u2019 Paul Joyce, among others, have since reported that Liverpool made two failed attempts to extend Diaz\u2019s contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is understood there was an insurmountable gap between the offers pitched by Liverpool and the demands made by Diaz\u2019s agent,\u201d Joyce explained.<\/p>\n

The Echo\u2019s Paul Gorst, meanwhile, adds that there had \u201cbeen no rush on discussions\u201d from the club\u2019s side and that \u201cstance led to frustration inside Diaz\u2019s camp.\u201d The 28-year-old had two years left on his contract at Anfield, which saw him earn around \u00a3140,000 per week, considerably more than the \u00a355,000 previously claimed. For comparison, the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa are believed to be in a similar bracket.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Throughout the process, there was very little discussion regarding any attempts made by Liverpool to keep Diaz. That is all water under the bridge at this point, though, as the Colombian is expected to ink his contract with Bayern Munich in the coming hours. <\/p>\n
