Thieneman comes off a standout sophomore season with the Boilermakers, leading all Big Ten defensive backs with 104 tackles and tallying seven pass breakups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_pawpbo9m5\">Thieneman said it\u2019s a balance between proving himself to his peers while also stepping up as a leader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_2dtfn9kkz\">\u201cIn the spring, I feel like I got a lot closer with the guys. There\u2019s like that completion there,\u201d Thieneman said. \u201cAnd what we need to do with the leadership stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_w3u8zadw2\">Fellow defensive back Jadon Canady said during media day that him and Thieneman have spent a lot of time together since arriving to Eugene, helping mentor some of the younger players in the secondary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_oh1hkbm7z\">Oregon\u2019s defense played a key role in its 13-1 finish in 2024. The Ducks lost a handful of defensive starters from last season, however.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_nd64bxvi6\">\u201cI feel like chemistry has been really good,\u201d Thieneman said. \u201cI feel like we\u2019re kind of chill with each other and we\u2019ll be a lot closer in fall camp.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_r3aqs0ea8\">Coach<a class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_betqc1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/oregon\/football\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Dan Lanning<\/a> added several prominent defensive players from the transfer portal, including the star safety. Even though Thieneman wasn\u2019t a part of the 2024 Oregon team\u2019s success, he comes in equally motivated to build off the Ducks\u2019 process from previous years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_16dbupz-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_apg8bfha5\">\u201cEmbrace the change,\u201d Thieneman said. \u201cKnow that things are going to be a little different, but I\u2019m in a new place and I\u2019m ready to get out to the field and show what I can do.
