The reigning NFL MVP has been with the Rams since 2021, but the franchise has had a major link with Texas ever since a nearly $1 billion purchase in 2016.

Billionaire real estate mogul Stan Kroenke has been part of the Rams since 1995, when he helped bring the original Los Angeles Rams to St. Louis. He became the full owner of the team in 2010 but in 2016 he moved the franchise back to L.A. That same year, Kroenke made a historic move in the real estate world by acquiring Waggoner Ranch, a property that has been a Texas staple for over 150 years.

Founded in 1849 by Dan Waggoner near Vernon, south of the Red River, the ranch grew over the next century until it crossed six counties and covers 525,000 contiguous acres. The King Ranch may be the largest in Texas at 825,000 acres, but the Waggoner Ranch stands to this day as the largest contiguous ranch in the nation, famously referring to itself as the largest ranch under one fence. Its size makes it larger than Los Angeles and New York City combined.

Then in 2016 after more than a century in the same family, the descendants of Dan Waggoner sold the Waggoner Ranch to Stan Kroenke’s Kroenke Ranches for a monumental price tag of $725 million. For anyone concerned about an out-of-state developer or the emergence of data centers, Kroenke’s statement at the time of purchase reflected a commitment to preserving the historic ranch.

“This is an incredible opportunity and an even greater responsibility,” Kroenke said in a statement at the time of the sale. “We are honored to assume ownership of the Waggoner — a true Texas and American landmark — and are deeply committed to continuing the proud legacy of W.T. ‘Tom’ Waggoner, his family and his descendants. Our gratitude to them and to the many parties involved in this process is immense. We will continue to preserve and protect this uniquely American treasure.”

Stan Kroenke gained his wealth in the real estate market but he became even wealthier through his wife Ann Walton, of the Walmart Walton family. Today, Forbes estimates Kroenke’s net worth is $24.3 billion, much of which has only grown through his investments in professional sports.

In addition to his ownership of the Los Angeles Rams, Kroenke is the owner of Arsenal F.C., Arsenal W.F.C., the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids and Colorado Mammoth. To date his franchises have won two Super Bowls, two Stanley Cups, one NBA title, one MLS Cup, two NLL championships and one Premier League title.

As for Kroenke Ranches, his properties cover 2.7 million acres across Texas, Wyoming and Nevada, according to the Land Report. Today, the Waggoner Ranch employs almost 100 employees from cowboys, farm hands, oil field workers and office staff, operating one of the largest cow/calf enterprises in the country, according to its website.

It turns out Dallas native Matthew Stafford is not the only Texas connection the Los Angeles Rams have…

[5123
1582,276,2961,224,5337,330016,337588,37065,324756
post-1006401","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-los-angeles","tag-ca","tag-california","tag-la","tag-los-angeles","tag-losangeles","tag-mysarealestate","tag-mysasports","tag-mysastaff","tag-mysatx
["GET
