\n\tThe Minnesota Wild famously do not have that much cap space. Basically, they have none as we’re just a month away from training camps starting around the NHL and no further necessary business. But, it really is a better cap situation than it appears.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tAccording to one little website named Benchrates, the Wild’s roster at market value is roughly $143.2 million. Meaning, the Wild are sort of kind of saving $40 million in salaries per year, or at least getting a tremendous amount of surplus value.\n<\/p>\n
\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\n\tIt is just one website who is putting this down to a certain number, so who’s to really say if this means anything. But general manager Bill Guerin has had a couple steals like the Matt Boldy and Brock Faber deals, to name a couple.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tIf either of those young key players needed new deals this past summer, even as restricted free agents, there’s an argument that they would be getting at least $10 million more combined. Boldy certainly could argue that he’s worth double his current cap hit — which is bananas.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tSo, while we’re all pacing our living rooms back and forth wondering when Quinn Hughes will sign his contract extension, we can pause for a moment and reflect on the Wild actually having a good cap situation, for what it’s worth.\n<\/p>\n
