{"id":1007647,"date":"2026-08-18T01:31:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T01:31:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1007647\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T01:31:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T01:31:13","slug":"eastside-company-will-lay-off-164-workers-by-the-end-of-september","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1007647\/","title":{"rendered":"Eastside company will lay off 164 workers by the end of September"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second large layoff this year is hitting the East Side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Postal Center International, a full-service mail provider that helps clients print, sort and deliver large volumes of mail, started laying off 164 of its employees on Aug. 13.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The layoffs include delivery drivers, barcode sweepers and supervisors and managers at the Stout drive facility, located near the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Loop 410.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Postal Center International leased the 100,000-square-foot space in San Antonio, its first in the city, in 2021, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/pcibrands.com\/about-us\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the company\u2019s website<\/a>. The website also said the company had originally left room at its facility to grow its operations. It won an award from the United States Postal Service for its work earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Postal Center International could not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company is also closing its South Florida headquarters and laying off 200 workers there. It also has facilities in Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts and Arizona.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Postal Center International announced the layoffs in a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission on Aug. 11 and said the layoffs would be completed by the end of September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Employers with 100 or more full-time employees are required to submit a notice to the state under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act of 1988. Those layoffs are listed online by the Texas Workforce Commission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s the second Eastside employer to announce this kind of large layoff since April. <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/san-antonio-national-safety-apparel-factory-shutdown\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Safety Apparel fired 68 workers<\/a> and closed a facility that was just two miles away from Postal Center International and announced those layoffs April 23.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unemployment has climbed entering the summer and a Southside farm <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/brooks-80-acres-indoor-farm-layoff-166-workers-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">laid off 166 workers<\/a> earlier this month. Preliminary data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/eag\/eag.tx_sanantonio_msa.htm#eag_tx_sanantonio_msa.f.p\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a> showed the unemployment rate in the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area at 4.8% in June, the highest level since 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The second large layoff this year is hitting the East Side.
