They backdated the placement to August 14, the maximum three days. New York will activate <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rodonca01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Carlos Rod\u00f3n<\/a><\/strong> from the 15-day IL tomorrow, as he\u2019s slated to oppose\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bazsh01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shane Baz<\/a><\/strong> in the opener of a three-game series at Camden Yards.<\/p>\n<p>This is the same injury designation that shelved Fried in the middle of May and cost him two months. The Yankees haven\u2019t specified whether this is an equally severe issue. They\u2019re off today, so manager Aaron Boone should provide more detail when he meets with the beat tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Fried has taken the ball five times in between the injured list stints. He has pitched well, working to a 1.82 ERA with a near-32% strikeout rate during that stretch. Fried expressed some frustration after his last appearance against Seattle, though, saying he was \u201ca little erratic\u201d and \u201cdidn\u2019t necessarily have (his) best stuff\u201d (link via <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7520341\/2026\/08\/17\/yankees-max-fried-injury-elbow-bone-bruise\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brendan Kuty of The Athletic<\/a>). He still managed to work five innings of one-run ball, and his 93.3 mph average sinker speed was in line with his previous marks.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees have had an excellent pitching staff all season, keeping them on track for a playoff berth despite their offensive struggles without\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/judgeaa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Aaron Judge<\/a><\/strong>. No team has a lower rotation ERA than their 3.38 mark on the season, and they\u2019re allowing just 2.69 earned runs per nine since the All-Star Break. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/warrewi01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-17_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Will Warren<\/a><\/strong> has had a tough time with the home run ball, but the rest of the rotation has been in excellent form.<\/p>\n<p>Rod\u00f3n\u2019s return is a silver lining, as they can plug him into the rotation spot. He\u2019s back after a six-week absence due to elbow inflammation. Rod\u00f3n also missed time to begin the year working back from last fall\u2019s elbow procedure.
