Development Shaped by Community Input<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n
The County conducted a\u00a0robust\u00a0community engagement campaign,\u00a0including online activities on Engage San Diego County<\/a>\u00a0after declaring the land surplus.\u00a0Residents emphasized the importance of\u00a0maintaining\u00a0uninterrupted access to health care\u00a0onsite.\u00a0<\/p>\n In response,\u00a0the County issued a request for proposals\u00a0in 2023\u00a0requiring\u00a0a modern\u00a0Federally Qualified Health Center<\/a>\u00a0along with the housing.\u00a0<\/p>\n BRIDGE Housing Corporation<\/a>\u00a0was selected to develop the affordable housing. San Ysidro Health will operate the health care facility.\u00a0<\/p>\n Homes will exceed state energy-efficiency standards and meet\u00a0GreenPoint Silver certification. Planned community amenities include a garden, barbecue area, and children\u2019s play space.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Expanded Health Care Access for Underserved Residents<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n San Ysidro Health will build a 23,800\u2011square\u2011foot health care facility with its own parking garage. The organization will\u00a0continue\u00a0serving\u00a0patients\u00a0on an adjacent parcel during construction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The health facility will meet LEED Silver green building standards. The County will require\u00a0the property\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0used\u00a0as a health care facility\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0full\u00a099\u2011year lease term.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Looking\u00a0Ahead<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n The\u00a099\u2011year\u00a0lease\u00a0requires\u00a0the homes\u00a0remain\u00a0affordable\u00a0for the entire term.\u00a0The\u00a0County will\u00a0deposit\u00a0initial rent\u00a0payments\u00a0into\u00a0the Innovative Housing Trust Fund to support future affordable housing development.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n This\u00a0location\u00a0is\u00a0one\u00a0of\u00a012\u00a0surplus properties\u00a0identified for\u00a0affordable housing<\/a>.\u00a0Three\u00a0developments are complete,\u00a0one\u00a0is under construction,\u00a0seven are expected to\u00a0break ground\u00a0in the next three years\u00a0and\u00a0one\u00a0is in\u00a0the\u00a0planning\u00a0process.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Since 2017, the County has invested more than $330 million in affordable housing through efforts such as using\u00a0surplus\u00a0County land and loans through the Innovative Housing Trust Fund.
