Legendary leading man and tanning enthusiast George Hamilton revealed the devastating effect of a medical operation he had in his early eighties.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the 87-year-old actor told Page Six<\/a> that he lost his memory after undergoing an unspecified surgery four years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to read my own biography to learn who I was,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I had to think, \u2018Do I like this person?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamilton re-read his 2008 book, George Hamilton: Don\u2019t Mind If I Do: My Adventures In Hollywood, multiple times to help return his memory.<\/p>\n

\u201c[I] looked at things from my past, and I wasn\u2019t sure if I had done them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Doctors told Hamilton the memory loss would only last a few days, but that wasn\u2019t the case. It took him years to remember his identity after coming out of the operation \u201cnot knowing who [he] was.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Golden Globe-winning Crime and Punishment USA star did not specify the medical condition or specific procedure.<\/p>\n

Losing his memory taught the actor to reflect on his priorities. <\/p>\n

\u201cThings have come and gone, but kindness and good manners and optimism and belief in something more important than our egos is something people probably don\u2019t think I think about,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it\u2019s most important to me at this age.\u201d <\/p>\n

The couple, who got together after Hamilton\u2019s surgery, have dated for a year and a half.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s great. Best thing is we bring a lot of fun into each other\u2019s lives,\u201d he said before calling Bryan \u201can incredibly nice human being.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHer consideration for other people is extraordinary,\u201d Hamilton said. \u201cShe keeps a tight group with her that just adore her, and they\u2019ve been kind enough to accept me.\u201d<\/p>\n
