Now, this cool air is bringing severe weather threats to a large portion of the state, including<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/weather\/article\/hail-storms-texas-22375085.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\"> penny-sized hail, 70 mph wind<\/a> gusts and a very low tornado risk.<\/p>\n<p>Several meteorological <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=AMA&amp;issuedby=AMA&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">boundaries pushing into the Texas Panhandle<\/a> sent temperatures plummeting early this week. While it\u2019s a welcome reprieve from the triple-digit days that bled into Monday from the weekend, the National Weather Service says this mix of winds from each direction brings a threat of severe storms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ll be watching for storms to move into the Northern and Western combined Panhandles tonight, some of which could be severe with potential for wind gusts up to 70 mph and locally heavy rain,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/ama\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">National Weather Service warned<\/a> Wednesday afternoon, August 19.<\/p>\n<p>From the Texas-Oklahoma border all the way down toward Amarillo, a big chunk of the Texas Panhandle is at risk of seeing hail with a diameter as large as .75 inch, 70 mph wind gusts, and a very low risk of a tornado.<\/p>\n<p>Current models show storms sweeping in between 5 p.m. Wednesday evening and 3 a.m. Thursday morning. Sustained 70 mph winds would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/cle\/submit_spotter_report\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">classified as\u00a0storm force<\/a> \u2013 the second strongest wind measurement that can down larger trees \u2013 but wind gusts should cause less damage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A burst of cool air swept across Texas towns early this week, dropping temperatures by 10 degrees.
