It helps protect your spine, improves balance and stability (one systematic <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC12548199\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC12548199\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"review\" data-node-id=\"5.1\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">review<\/a> and meta-analysis found that core training significantly improved older adults\u2019 balance performance), supports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/health\/female-health\/a70859333\/pilates-pelvic-floor-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/health\/female-health\/a70859333\/pilates-pelvic-floor-health\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"pelvic floor health\" data-node-id=\"5.3\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pelvic floor health<\/a>, improves posture and reduces overall risk of injury. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"10\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">And someone who is keen to spread this message is none other than model and activist Gisele B\u00fcndchen, whose approach to building strength and fitness shifted after having her third baby last year.  <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"14\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">\u2018After my last baby, I started these five slow, intentional movements around eight weeks postpartum. No traditional crunches, just gentle, conscious work that helped me reconnect with my core and they have been a game changer for me,\u2019 Gisele, 46, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DVHVHzvj6qA\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DVHVHzvj6qA\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"recently wrote on Instagram\" data-node-id=\"14.1\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recently wrote on Instagram<\/a>. \u2018I took almost a full year to return to my regular workouts, and I truly believe slowing down made all the difference for me. It helped me rebuild my deeper core and protect my back.\u2019  <\/p>\n<blockquote data-theme-key=\"pullquote\" data-pullquote-align=\"left\" class=\"css-1uh0taj e1f76l351\">\n<blockquote class=\"css-sh2zho e1f76l350\"><p>&#8216;I truly believe slowing down made all the difference for me&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"20\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">\u2018I\u2019m not a doctor or physical therapist,\u2019 she adds. \u2018This is simply me sharing my personal postpartum experience and what worked for my body. Everyone is different, so please listen to your body and check with your healthcare provider before trying anything new.\u2019<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"25\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Gisele said that she promised the women in her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a62462177\/what-is-pilates\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a62462177\/what-is-pilates\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Pilates\" data-node-id=\"25.1\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pilates<\/a> class that she&#8217;d share the moves online, but then \u2018thought other women might benefit too\u2019. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"29\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">&#8216;I really feel these exercises have been amazing and have helped me get my core strength back after my third pregnancy \u2013 I wish I\u2019d known them before because I didn\u2019t do them [with] my other pregnancies, and I feel my core is much stronger now,&#8217; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The exercises<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"36\" class=\"body-text css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Gisele says she began with sets of 5 reps, before moving on to sets of 10 \u2013 and she now does sets of 20. But as she mentioned, make sure you check in with a healthcare professional if you are currently postpartum. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"40\" class=\"body-tip css-1c5elkc emevuu60\"><strong data-node-id=\"40.0\">Tip:<\/strong> Think about moving with your breath. \u2018Every time I\u2019m exhaling, I think about squeezing everything together,&#8217; says Gisele.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787202086_392_poster.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<ul data-node-id=\"43\" class=\"css-12c7ta7 emevuu60\">\n<li data-node-id=\"43.0\">Start on all fours, with your wrists and shoulders aligned and your knees at 90 degrees. Keep your back flat and push your palms into the floor<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"43.1\">Tuck your toes under, engage your core and inhale<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"43.2\">As you exhale, come onto your toes so your knees hover a few centimetres above the floor<br data-node-id=\"43.2.1\"\/><\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"43.3\">On the inhale breath, bring your knees back down to the floor <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. Bear plank knee tap<img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787202087_811_poster.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<ul data-node-id=\"46\" class=\"css-12c7ta7 emevuu60\">\n<li data-node-id=\"46.0\">Maintain the same &#8216;bear plank&#8217; position, keeping your knees hovering a few centimetres off the floor and core engaged   <\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"46.1\">On the inhale breath, bring your knees inward to lightly tap together before moving them back out to the starting position on the exhale breath. Lower your knees slightly (without touching the floor) in each position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. Bear plank twist <img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787202088_20_poster.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<ul data-node-id=\"49\" class=\"css-12c7ta7 emevuu60\">\n<li data-node-id=\"49.0\">Still in the same bear plank position, engaging your core and keeping your shoulders steady, rotate your hips to one side on the exhale breath and slightly lower your knees towards the floor <\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"49.1\">Inhale as you move your hips back through centre before rotating to the other side on the exhale breath and repeating the movement<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"49.2\">Keep the movement controlled and avoid letting your chest collapse<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4. Bear plank toe tap<img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787202089_125_poster.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<ul data-node-id=\"52\" class=\"css-12c7ta7 emevuu60\">\n<li data-node-id=\"52.0\">Remaining in the bear plank, engage your core and keep your hips as level as possible<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"52.1\">Keeping the bend in your knees, on the exhale breath move one of your feet out to the side away from your body and lightly tap your toe on the floor before bringing it back to the starting position on the inhale<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"52.2\">Repeat on the other side <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5.
