The <a href=\"https:\/\/cityjobs.nyc.gov\/job\/cook-in-manhattan-jid-46109\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">job posting<\/a> put online earlier this month requires applicants who have experience with \u201cmultiple cuisines, with a focus on South Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine.\u201d Mamdani is New York\u2019s first Indian American mayor and lives in the Upper East Side mansion with his wife Rama Duwaji, the city\u2019s first Syrian American first lady.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The position requires three years of professional cooking experience and the ability to \u201cmaintain strict confidentiality regarding the Mayor, Principals, guests, and household operations.\u201d It pays $64,500, and the cook reports to the senior executive chef and executive sous chef. Beyond cooking Mamdani\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MattZeitlin\/status\/2067416024962506851?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> go-to breakfast<\/a> of scrambled eggs, avocado and labneh, the mayor\u2019s kitchen staff provides the food for all the events and official functions hosted at Gracie Mansion.<\/p>\n<p>Before winning the Democratic primary, Mamdani told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bonappetit.com\/story\/zohran-mamdani-interview-mayoral-election?srsltid=AfmBOopS0rpESVwoi8AA9EtIkWFqh5L_017TdsU5oz-r3qkUEyt4jiVl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bon Appetit magazine<\/a> that despite not having time to cook, cooking with his wife was one of his favorite things to do. More recently, the foodie mayor and his wife have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DaQdbpLyIyK\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">spotted<\/a> around the city eating at a diverse array of restaurants. While vacationing upstate, NY1 reported that Mamdani was spotted last night <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bern_hogan\/status\/2090072530002256195?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">eating at Casa Susanna<\/a> in Leeds.<\/p>\n<p>Mayors asking for the Gracie Mansion kitchen staff to adhere to a specific diet is not new, as former mayor Eric Adams famously searched for a vegan chef to support his \u201cplant based,\u201d lifestyle.
