Sydney Morning Herald reported.<\/a><\/p>\nHooper\u2019s Hyundai was found at the bottom of one of the protected area\u2019s more challenging trails at 11 p.m., an hour after her family reported her missing.<\/p>\n

Around 1,000 people \u2013 including volunteers, law enforcement and military personnel \u2013 searched for Hooper over the past week, combing through dense bushland, before her body was tragically found Thursday.<\/p>\n
Volunteers reported to law enforcement at around 11:30 a.m. local time that Hooper had been found alive, Joseph Cassar, the New South Wales Police assistant commissioner, told reporters, before additional information was received.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithin eight to 10 minutes, we were able to give [her family] an update, which was a more accurate account of the discovery of the person we believed to be Lily,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy absolute condolences go out to Lily\u2019s mom and dad.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cassar attributed the error to a communication issue as he delivered the groveling apology to Hooper\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re carrying handheld communication devices\u2026 sometimes the communication is a challenge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Hooper\u2019s family consoled each other after the discovery. 7NEWS Sydney<\/p>\n
\u201cI cannot turn the clock back. If we were able to provide them more detailed information on that first report, I can tell you that would have been the case.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not a circumstance I would like to see repeated and again I apologize for any trauma or embarrassment this has caused,\u201d Mal Lanyon, the New South Wales Police commissioner, said.<\/p>\n
News of the initial discovery was passed through to the New South Wales premier, Chris Minns, who was addressing a parliamentary committee.<\/p>\n

He even checked with a staffer if the news that Hooper was alive before revealing it.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got some fantastic news, Mr Chair,\u201d the pol said. \u201cLily Hooper has been found alive.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Hooper was] found in the bush with half a bottle of water with it, so that\u2019s fantastic news.\u201d<\/p>\n
Minns was embarrassingly forced to retract his statement moments later.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got some terrible news,\u201d he told lawmakers. \u201cI apologize\u2026 Lily\u2019s body has been found.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not clear how Hooper died and if she sustained any injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201c[Her body] wasn\u2019t on a clear, walkable track\u2026 it was some significant distance away from where the vehicle was parked,\u201d Cassar said.<\/p>\n
He said the challenges of flying her body out of the national park are \u201cproving to\u00a0be exceptionally difficult\u201d meaning she will likely be brought out on foot.<\/p>\n
Just days before the tragic discovery, her dad, Jim, issued a desperate appeal to those who were searching.\u00a0<\/p>\n
