The BC Highway Patrol says in a statement that after a 16-year-old boy from Abbotsford crashed into a parked dump truck on July 21, officers fined him almost $1,800 in fines.<\/p>\n
First, a BC Highway Patrol officer clocked a grey BMW speeding at 180 km\/h in a 100 km\/h zone on Highway 1 in Popkum, BC.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo the officer, the speeding grey BMW made other highway traffic look like it was standing still,\u201d said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n
Then, just minutes later, the 16-year-old driver ran a stop sign and hit a parked dump truck.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe BMW was not pursued, but a few minutes later, a driver called police and said a grey BMW had gone through a stop sign and collided with his parked dump truck,\u201d McLaughlin explained.<\/p>\n
Once BC Highway Patrol officers arrived, the BMW was identified as the same vehicle that police had clocked at 180 km\/h before.<\/p>\n
The driver was identified as a 16-year-old with a Class 7 Learner\u2019s Licence. Two additional teenage boys were also sitting in the car.<\/p>\n
The driver is now facing eleven fines, including excessive speed, passing on right of roadway, and improper display of front licence plate.<\/p>\n
Additionally, police issued a 12-month driving prohibition as a result of a high-risk driving report submitted to the BC Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.<\/p>\n
The vehicle was towed with a seven-day impound at the owner\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n
