The tag of nepotism has always chased Alia Bhatt despite her best efforts to negate that. After making her debut with Karan Johar\u2019s 2012 hit campus caper Student of the Year, Alia has proven her acting prowess over the years<\/a> with critically acclaimed performances in films like Imtiaz Ali\u2019s Highway (2014), Abhishek Chaubey\u2019s Udta Punjab (2016), Meghna Gulzar\u2019s Raazi (2018), and Sanjay Leela Bhansali\u2019s Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022).<\/p>\n

Alia\u2019s father, veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, also believes his daughter is \u201cself-made.\u201d \u201cI didn\u2019t launch Alia Bhatt<\/a>. Karan Johar<\/a> launched her. I didn\u2019t know she had so much thirst for acting in her. She gave the audition herself. I just got to know they loved her work. I was shocked because I hadn\u2019t seen any such traits in her even remotely. I\u2019m very happy she\u2019s a self-made girl,\u201d said Mahesh.<\/p>\n

On The Himanshu Mehta Show, the filmmaker further revealed that the young generation today approach her for pictures only to flaunt that they met Alia Bhatt\u2019s father. \u201cAlia has astounded me! What is unique about her is that she has a taste for taking risks and she\u2019s taken the detours into diverse narratives,\u201d added Mahesh.<\/p>\n

Alia\u2019s father also pointed out that she\u2019s gone through \u201can alchemical change\u201d after the birth of her daughter Raha Kapoor in 2022. \u201cI see a new depth in her. With this young girl becoming a mother, there\u2019s a coming-of-age of a different kind, a different kind of maturity in her. I\u2019m also looking forward to her new films which would be coming out now,\u201d said Mahesh.<\/p>\n

Alia will be next seen headlining Shiv Rawail\u2019s spy thriller Alpha, which is a part of Aditya Chopra\u2019s YRF Spy Universe. Backed by Yash Raj Films, it\u2019s slated to release in cinemas this Christmas<\/a> on December 25. Next year, Alia will also star alongside real-life husband<\/a> Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Bhansali\u2019s romantic drama Love & War.<\/p>\n

Mahesh Bhatt also revealed that even Ranbir is in awe of Alia. \u201cHe says, \u2018Alia is made of different stuff.\u2019 When I ask him, \u2018What do you mean?,\u2019 he says, \u2018Her ambition to do more and more and more is unbelievably astounding!\u2019 While he\u2019s a person who\u2019s very laid-back and comforted, and he just wants to do enough. She\u2019s a go-getter,\u201d added Mahesh.<\/p>\n

The filmmaker agreed that while there are talented nepo babies like Alia and Ranbir, one can\u2019t deny the merit that the discussion around nepotism holds. \u201cNature is very fair. It\u2019s not important that the rose would bloom in only your garden. Nature spreads its jewels across the world. Nepotism is a reality, but it\u2019s also not. Just because my child is talented, that doesn\u2019t mean I disqualify them,\u201d argued Mahesh.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s definitely easy for them. Because access is success. Talented people don\u2019t even get access for years. It\u2019s important to understand that the voice that\u2019s been raised against nepotism, there\u2019s a collective anger behind that.
