{"id":101380,"date":"2025-07-29T06:28:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T06:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/101380\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T06:28:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T06:28:13","slug":"watch-escaped-water-monitor-lizard-crosses-state-border-into-connecticut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/101380\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch: Escaped water monitor lizard crosses state border into Connecticut"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>July 28 (UPI) &#8212; A water monitor lizard that escaped from its owner&#8217;s home in Massachusetts was spotted a week later across the state border in Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>Police in Webster, Mass., said the 5-foot lizard, named Goose, escaped from his owner&#8217;s home July 18 by jumping out from a second-story window.\n<\/p>\n<p>Monitor lizards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Odd_News\/2025\/07\/21\/Webster-Massachusetts-water-monitor-lizard-loose\/1421753111529\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are not legal to keep<\/a> as pets in the state without a permit, and authorities said Goose&#8217;s owner did not have the required paperwork.<\/p>\n<p>Goose was spotted Friday in Thompson, Conn., about 5 miles from Webster. Town officials said the monitor was seen in the Little Pond area of Wilsonville Road and Thompsonville Road.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This animal is owned illegally, and it is important to call animal control as soon as there is a spotting so we can capture it.
