{"id":1014688,"date":"2026-08-21T10:13:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T10:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1014688\/"},"modified":"2026-08-21T10:13:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T10:13:32","slug":"jso-in-second-facebook-again-defends-its-use-of-flock-cameras-that-save-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1014688\/","title":{"rendered":"JSO in second Facebook again defends its use of Flock cameras that \u201csave lives\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office continued to defend its use of Flock cameras, posting for a second time this month how the controversial devices \u201csave lives.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cWhy do we support the use of license plate readers?\u201d a post Wednesday on JSO\u2019s Facebook page began. \u201cBecause they make our community safer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">The post &#8211; which follows an August 7 post JSO titled \u201cFact vs. Fiction\u201d &#8211; goes on to say that since 2024 the use of cameras helped solve 15 murders, 17 kidnappings, six forcible sex offenses, nearly 100 shootings, and 172 missing-persons cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201c(License-plate readers) have proven to be an incredibly effective tool in helping solve crimes, locate missing people, and save lives,\u201d the most recent post read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">The cameras used in public and private spaces to record license plates and provide information have been criticized by people concerned about privacy and questioning who is using the information and for what purposes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">The issue reached the Oval Office on Tuesday when a reporter asked President Donald Trump if regulations were needed to address concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">JSO\u2019s earlier \u201cFact vs. Fiction\u201d post labeled as \u201cfiction\u201d that readers identify people\u2019s faces, and as \u201cfacts\u201d that police control who accesses the information and that its is strictly used for police investigations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">JSO said in Wednesday\u2019s post that information from readers, for example, helped police rescue a teenage girl kidnapped from her home in Georgia and assisted in locating a killer of a corrections officer at a truck stop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve seen that impact firsthand,\u201d the post said. \u201cWhen someone you love is in danger, you want us to have every responsible tool available to help find them and solve the crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">JSO said it uses 141 fixed license-plate readers and nine mobile readers across Duval County.
