{"id":10148,"date":"2025-06-24T07:29:14","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T07:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/10148\/"},"modified":"2025-06-24T07:29:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T07:29:14","slug":"tasmanian-nationals-announce-former-jln-liberal-mps-among-seven-candidates-for-snap-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/10148\/","title":{"rendered":"Tasmanian Nationals announce former JLN, Liberal MPs among seven candidates for snap election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The Tasmanian Nationals have confirmed two former Jacqui Lambie Network (JLN) MPs, one former JLN candidate and a former Liberal who split from the party as its state election candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The party announced seven candidates across three electorates, running with policies of renegotiating with the AFL over the Macquarie Point stadium, and addressing the state budget.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Former JLN MP Miriam Beswick, who became independent, will run in Braddon, and former JLN MP Andrew Jenner, who stayed with the JLN until the election was called, will run in Lyons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">John Tucker \u2014 who left the Liberals to become independent which <a class=\"Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2024-02-08\/john-tucker-early-tas-election-closer-after-rejecting-deal\/103440944\" data-component=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was a key precursor to the last state election<\/a>, where he lost his seat \u2014 will also be a Nationals candidate in Lyons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">They were joined at the candidate announcement by former JLN candidate and solicitor Angela Armstrong and former federal Nationals candidate and Rowella farmer Carl Cooper, who will both run in Bass.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Angela Armstrong standing in front of York Park stadium.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1d1a7cb6b71a926ba3244e1a573547cb\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Angela Armstrong (centre) and Carl Cooper will run in Bass, while Miriam Beswick will run in Lyons. (ABC News: Ashleigh Barraclough)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The identity of the other two candidates was unclear at the announcement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The candidates said that one is named Rick, and the other Francis, who Mr Tucker said has a &#8220;double-barrelled&#8221; surname.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">They said their names would be on a press release later, but they were not on the press release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A party spokesperson later confirmed them as accountant Rick Mandelson and retired barrister Francis Haddon-Cave, who appears to have practiced in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Both are candidates for Lyons.<\/p>\n<p>Nationals seeking to renegotiate AFL deal\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Tucker&#8217;s decision to leave the Liberal party was due, in part, to his opposition to the proposed Macquarie Point stadium.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-06-18\/tasmanian-2025-state-election-promise-tracker\/105407176\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What are Tasmanians being promised at their state election?<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">We keep track of each party&#8217;s election promises so voters can make an informed decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He said the Tasmanian Nationals&#8217; policy is to &#8220;bench&#8221; the stadium.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;Relooking at the AFL deal, renegotiating it. (ABC News: Loretta Lohberger)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The list of candidates includes multiple people who have quit their parties, and others who were key precursors to the Liberals calling state elections.<\/p>\n<p>Loading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Tucker said he had no hard feelings with the Liberals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I&#8217;m quite happy to be working with the Liberals, I&#8217;ve still got some very close friends in the Liberal party that I still talk to,&#8221;
